Friendship

“However deep our devotion may be to parents, or to children, it is
our contemporaries alone with whom understanding is instinctive
and entire.”
-Vera Britain, Testament of Youth (1933)

Some people say that we can’t choose our parents or our children, but
we can choose our friends. I don’t know if that is entirely true. I
think there is some reason we have the family that we have, either
by divine agreement or for learning purposes. I also think that our
friends are our friends for a reason, too. We’re making choices all
the time, and our friends are making choices, too. And somehow, those
choices brought us together. And because we are brought together, we
grow. We experience more of what life is about. Understanding is
huge! To find a friend who truly understands is a magnificent gift.
